Staff from the Hertfordshire Constabulary and Bright Horizons worked together to sit on every seat at Vicarage Road in under one hour, raising more than £4,000 for charity.

The unique fundraising challenge, known as ‘bums on seats’, saw 31 participants tirelessly squat in all 22,220 seats at Watford FC's stadium.

The £4,198 raised will go to the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, which creates Bright Spaces in police stations in and around Watford to support vulnerable children.

The event also had the support of former Watford FC goalkeeper, Alec Chamberlain.

Ann Swanson, Junior Hornet patron at Watford FC, said: "With everything going on in the world at the moment, it can be difficult to focus on what is happening in our town in the background that has a huge impact on children.

"The foundation will use the funds....to create bright spaces, which are safe and supporting environments for vulnerable children in partnership with Hertfordshire Constabulary.

"What Bright Horizons colleagues have done to raise vital funds for their charity is amazing, by using the Vic in an imaginative way.

"I don't believe it's ever been done before so well done from everyone at the club."

The challenge, which took place on Saturday, was led by Rae, the Park Day nursery manager of Bright Horizons and was part of the foundation’s ‘100 Your Way’ campaign.

Rae said: "We thank Watford FC for being such great sports in supporting us with our idea as well as the team who took part in such a fun and challenging fundraiser that is different from others.

"I am proud of everyone who took part as it’s a massive achievement to fundraise for such an important cause which places children at the heart of everything we do.

"We chose to do a challenge for the foundation because we have the official ribbon cutting of all three Hertfordshire Bright Spaces at the end of June and we wanted to raise awareness of such great spaces we have in our local communities."

In 2024, the Bright Horizons Foundation plans to open its 100th Bright Space in the UK and aims to raise £100,000 through its '100 Your Way' campaign.
