Members of the Watford Rotary club distributed hundreds of free household items to the members of the public in an attempt to encourage recycling.
The goods ranged from pictures, crockery, and computer printers to record players and dozens of CDs and DVDs.
Ann Grierson, a Watford Rotary member and event organiser, said: "It was amazing to see the expressions on peoples faces when we told them they could have it free, we even had recycled plastic bags for them to put it in.
"We are seriously considering making this a regular event rather than just once a year, our biggest problem is trying to find a storage unit to hold the items collected, if any readers of the Watford Observer can help, it will enable us to make this the regular event we want to see."
The event was facilitated by Friends of the Earth, Watford Council, and Three Rivers Council, who Watford Rotary thanked for their cooperation and assistance.
