Drivers face “nightmare traffic” for over a week due to emergency roadworks on a main road out of Rickmansworth.
Temporary traffic lights have been placed at the bottom of Scots Hill from yesterday afternoon (June 10) until Tuesday, June 18, as Cadent Gas carries out emergency repair work to the gas mains.
Herts Highways has warned that delays are likely and Google Maps shows that traffic is backed up along the A412 to the Chorleywood Road junction and up Scots Hill towards Croxley Green.
One resident said she understood the need to fix gas leaks but raised concerns that the road was being “constantly dug up”.
“It’s a really busy road and causes total chaos for thousands of people,” she added.

Another local said “traffic is a nightmare again”, while someone else wrote: “At least they haven’t closed the whole road off like last week.”
It follows previous disruption when the road was partially shut by Cadent from May 25 to 30 due to a gas leak.
The utility company was planning to deal with a gas leak in the footpath by Scots Hill but excavation revealed that the issue was beneath the carriageway itself, forcing it to close the westbound lane.
It is unclear if the current roadworks are connected to the previous gas leak. Cadent Gas has been contacted for more information.
