Watford residents have just a week to ensure they are registered to vote in the general election.

The borough council is encouraging residents to ensure they're signed up before the end of Tuesday, June 18, which can be done quickly online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

It also reiterated that accepted photo ID will be needed for those voting at a polling station. ID, like a driving licence or passport, will be accepted even if it has expired as long as the photo shows a true likeness to the owner.

Chief executive of Watford Borough Council and returning officer, Donna Nolan, said: "We want to ensure that all residents have the support and resources they need to vote.

"Please don't hesitate to reach out – we're here to assist you every step of the way."

Those without photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate until 5pm on Wednesday, June 26.

Postal voters can apply online until 5pm on Wednesday, June 19, and should post their votes as soon as possible for delivery by 10pm on Thursday, July 4.
