An elderly couple wait to cross the road at a location that will be instantly familiar to many Watford fans even though this picture is at least 40 years old.

The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at this image taken from the Bob Nunn Collection.

The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This scene with a triangular traffic island is where Vicarage Road meets Fearnley Street and Farraline Road.

“It is probably a very familiar view for those who know the area and especially for football fans walking to a game at the Vic.

“When this photo was taken some business types occupy the same position that they do today.

“Beyond Webb Spares is a bookmakers then a takeaway shop and further on is the glass merchants, Bridgewater Glass.”
