A planning application to turn a Watford home into six apartments has been refused.

The plans for 35 Bucks Avenue proposed the construction of rear, side and loft extensions to make space for a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats.

The application stated that the "proposed development has been designed sympathetically in terms of scale, bulk and design", but some objections were submitted.

Watford Borough Council's Development Management Committee agreed with the objections, citing a number of reasons as they turned down the application.

"The proposed extensions, by virtue of their bulk and massing, would harm to the character and appearance of the host property and appearance of the area," the decision notice reads.

"The proposed development, by virtue of its first floor side facing windows, fails to protect the amenity of 1 to 5 Horsehaven Mews.

"The overprovision of car parking, fails to encourage the uptake of sustainable methods of transportation or reduce overall car use and pressure on highway networks and infrastructure.

"For the reasons set out in this decision notice, the proposal is not considered to achieve an acceptable and sustainable development. The council would nevertheless encourage the discussion of alternative proposals to overcome the reasons for refusal."
