Iconic actress Honor Blackman was already a British star but she was on the road to global fame when a Watford Observer photographer captured these snaps of her arriving for a glitzy event almost 60 years ago.

Blackman was already widely known in this country for her role as Cathy Gale in the TV espionage drama The Avengers, but on September 17, 1964 a film was to premiere that catapulted her career to another level – Goldfinger.

The actress was cast as Pussy Galore in one of the most famous movies of the franchise, opposite 007 played by Sean Connery.

These pictures from our archive were taken on September 25, 1994, a week after the film’s premiere in Leicester Square.

Sadly, the entry in this newspaper’s photographer’s diary for that time simply says ‘Honor Blackman’ and does not record where they were taken or what the event was.

However, Blackman, who died in 2020 at the age of 94, appears relaxed as she chats to other guests at the event which saw her also take to the stage holding a microphone.
