Former and current pupils gathered at Yorke Mead Primary School to mark 50 years since it first opened its doors.
The school in Dulwich Way, Rickmansworth, started life in 1974 as a one-form entry junior mixed infant school to replace the smaller school previously located in York Road.
Significant developments have been made over the five decades.
Now a two-form entry primary school, Yorke Mead has grown into a more vibrant educational institution, complete with a school nursery, forest school areas, allotments, and large play areas.
The grand 50th-anniversary celebration was a day of nostalgia and future thinking, filled with past pupils reminiscing, a traditional street party and pupils dressing in costumes representing different decades.
Imagination was at its peak as pupils participated in a competition which invited them to envision what the school might look like 50 years in the future, with entries incorporating artwork, music, poems, and climate change concerns.
Headteacher Lucille Pollard said: "I am incredibly proud to be leading Yorke Mead at this special time.
"Many staff, including myself, have a long history with the school and have watched it grow into the wonderful place it is.
"It is a place that we hope will forever be in the heart of anyone connected to it – once a Yorke Meader, always a Yorke Meader."
