Although they rarely come with prison sentences, driving offences can be particularly likely to land offenders with significant fines.
The five people below had to pay more than £500 after magistrates’ court appearances in May.
Neil Cooper
Neil Cooper, of Falkirk Gardens, failed to give information relating to the identification of a Renault driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence when required to by police in Stevenage on June 27, last year.
The 62-year-old was proved guilty in his absence on April 15 and fined on May 22 at Luton and South Bedfordshire Magistrates’ Court.
He was ordered to pay a £1,234 total and was disqualified from driving for six months.
Stefka Hristova
72-year-old Stefka Hristova, of Stanley Road, was recorded driving at 55 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour road in a Kia in Barnet on October 18, last year.
She was ordered to pay a total of £1,024 at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on May 8 and her driving record was endorsed with six points.
Ayodapo Akinwunmi
Ayodapo Akinwunmi, of Phillipers, appeared in Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court on May 31 after failing to give information relating to the driver of a Mercedes who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence in Bexley on December 11, last year.
He pleaded guilty and was disqualified from driving for 12 months as a points disqualification.
The 30-year-old was ordered to pay a total of £982.
Siobhan Laura O’Shea
Siobhan Laura O’Shea, of Appletree Walk, exceeded a 40 mile per hour variable speed limit on the M1 southbound near Milton Keynes on October 26, last year.
After admitting to driving at 66 miles per hour, the 46-year-old was ordered to pay a £767 total at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on May 21.
Constantin-Ciprian Smarandache
Constantin-Ciprian Smarandache, 26, appeared in Bromley Magistrates’ Court on May 17.
He was ordered to pay a £520 total and his driving record was endorsed with five points.
Smarandache, of Bradshaw Road, had admitted driving a Toyota at 99 miles per hour on the M1 southbound in London on November 12 last year.
