Weekly recycling collections in Watford have been given a potential stay of execution due to the election.
On Monday, June 3, the borough council’s cabinet was set to discuss a move to fortnightly collections of dry recycling for low rise properties, meaning houses and individual flats in blocks up to five.
After the meeting agenda had been set, a general election for July 4 was announced meaning the meeting fell within the pre-election period.

After reviewing pre-election guidance and advice from officers, the council decided to push the discussion back to its next cabinet meeting, which is on July 8.
It has been suggested that the change could generate an annual saving of around £110,000 as well as carbon savings.
As part of the move, households with four or more permanent residents would become entitled to an additional 240-litre recycling bin.
Those with a 140-litre recycling bin would be able to swap it for a 240-litre recycling bin.
It was also proposed that residents should be able to put additional side recycling out if clearly marked or in a clear sack next to their recycling bin on collection day.
Larger blocks of flats with six or more properties and those with access to communal recycling facilities would be excluded and continue to receive a weekly collection.
