This photo was taken almost 90 years ago but the appearance of one side of this Watford town centre street remains essentially unaltered.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at this image taken in Market Street.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “The right-hand side of Market Street, just beyond Wellstones, has not changed its appearance since this summertime photo from 1937. It had the usual mix of independent businesses.
“Nearest the camera at no. 2, was Camfield's restaurant, then Luca & Sons' tea rooms. Further along, a newsagent, the Express dairy and a baker’s shop.
“Like today it was on a bus route, but traffic was two-way.”
