Plans have been resubmitted to fit three new homes on the site of a single house after previous designs were labelled "cramped and contrived".

The four-bedroom property in Bourne Road, Bushey, could be demolished as it has been vacant for several years and is in a state of disrepair, according to the application to Hertsmere Borough Council.

If approved, two semi-detached homes and one separate house would be built on the site with three bedrooms each.

The applicant argued the proposals would provide “much-needed” housing and the area already had properties in a similar “compact” layout.

The new two-storey properties would each have car parking spaces to the front and a separate garden each at the rear.

An outline planning application was previously refused on March 21 as the borough council said the “poorly arranged” layout would result in an “incongruous, dominant, visually intrusive and bulky form of overdevelopment that would appear cramped and contrived”.

In the revised application, the applicant said they had taken planning officers’ concerns into account and the previously gable roof design had been changed to a pyramid-hip style.

They added that it was important that planning permission was granted before the vacant house’s structure and surroundings became “unmanageable” and affected the neighbouring properties.
