Disused office space above a dental surgery could be turned into five flats under new plans.

The rear of the Station Road building, which houses the new Junction Dental surgery on the ground floor, would also be extended to accommodate the conversion.

In the application to Watford Borough Council, the surgery argued that it would make the most efficient use of the site and provide “much-needed residential accommodation”.

If approved, five one-bedroom flats would be created on the first and second floors with separate kitchen-dining room areas in each.

The works would be “mindful” of the property’s locally-listed status and would concentrate on the rear to conserve the view of the building from the street.

The building was previously used as office space but was vacant when bought by dentist Sanjay Rayarel last September, with the intention of creating a surgery there.

Self-dubbed “local boy” Mr Rayarel previously told the Watford Observer he was opening the practice to make care "accessible and affordable", having previously run practices in Aylesbury and Milton Keynes.
