Work has started on an "affordable" 53-home development in South Oxhey which received numerous objections.
Landscaping vehicles arrived last week to begin breaking ground for the new estate south of Foxgrove Path and Heysham Drive after plans were green-lit last October.
It will have eight one-bed flats, 28 two-bed houses, 15 three-bed and two four-bed houses, which will each have a garden as well as access to a central green space with a play area.
Developer Watford Community Housing said the scheme would provide "much-needed affordable housing" for the area as 36 properties will be shared ownership and 17 will be let under affordable rates via Three Rivers District Council.
WCH responded to objections to previous plans by including a five-metre buffer to protect the neighbouring Prestwick Road Meadows Local Nature Reserve.
Six extra parking spaces will also be built in the new estate for Foxgrove Path residents who would lose formal and informal spaces due to the development.
But the updated plans still received 15 objections and Maria Williams, who lives near the site, said she was concerned about the additional traffic.
The 60-year-old carer said there were “hardly any cars” when she first moved to the area 22 years ago, but warned: “There’s only one road in and it’s going to be horrific when it’s done.
“It’s an accident waiting to happen.”
