The land is now occupied by a cinema complex but before that was built it was a place where golfers would drive to try and improve their game.

The Watford Observer has again joined up with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we remember Watford Golf Range.

The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “There used to be a driving range where Woodside Leisure Park is today.

"Now we have a cinema complex here, which originally opened in 1996 as a Warner Cinema (now Vue).

“The entrance to the driving range's car park was off Sheepcot Lane, very close to the A405 turning, but there is nothing there today.

“The grassed range was where the cinema's car park is now.

“This photo was taken in 1991 not long before the range closed.”
