A passionate young football fan who remains "an inspiration to many" seven years after he died will be remembered at a family fun day this weekend to raise money for a garden in his name.

Ossie Robinson died in 2017 from neuroblastoma – a rare childhood cancer of the nervous system – at the age of 11.

The Watford FC fan, who was posthumously awarded the club’s Supporter of the Season award shortly after he passed away, played for Everett Rovers and the fun day will take place at the club on Sunday.

The event will feature the 'Ossie Cup' six-a-side football tournament, a fundraising auction and raffle, live music and singers and plenty of other activities including inflatables, while a barbecue and bar will also be available.

The 'Ossie Cup' has become a regular event in aid of charity but this year the money will go towards a project at Watford General Hospital called Ossie’s Gardens.

Organisers Ossie Boy's Fund are working with West Herts Hospitals Charity towards creating a garden within the hospital for children admitted to Watford General to enjoy with family, friends and staff.

Ossie’s mum Karly O’Reilly said: “His outlook on life was to ‘Never Give Up’ and that outlook was applied right up to the end of his fight. Even through the darkest and most painful of days he always had a smile on his face and would often say ‘It’s not that deep’.

“Quite simply he was and still is an inspiration to many, many people and even those who he had never met.

Watford Observer:

“His dreams and passions live on in others and we want to keep his spirit alive, his legacy to live on and to be remembered as our warrior forever.

“Ossie’s main passion in life was football. His determination for playing and watching football kept him going, he even managed to play in a match after a week of undergoing gruelling and horrendous chemotherapy.”

The family fun day starts at 10am at Everett Rovers in Dodd Road, Watford.
