A venue in Bushey has opened a new car park after serious road safety concerns were raised for children attending a nearby school.

Parking on verges near Queens' School and Metropolitan Bushey, in Aldenham Road, Bushey, has been a safety worry for years, with at least one child being hit by a vehicle.

Bollards, double-height curbs and trees have all been installed to combat the issue, but motorist still managed to access the verges.

There are now hopes the parking problem will continue to ease, with Metropolitan Bushey announcing a new car park made up of 33 car spaces and two motorbike spots, increasing the venues total parking capacity to 200.

In a statement to the Watford Observer, a spokesperson for Metropolitan Bushey said: "We are very pleased to open up an additional parking area here at Metropolitan Bushey, for several reasons.

"The area which was previously a children's playground which was tired and had been declared dangerous after failing its safety checks, so it had been closed for some time.

"The location for a children's playground didn't make sense either, so plans are afoot to develop a new playground on the other side of the site in view of Montys Bar & Kitchen, which will deal with a number of issues making it a safer and more easily monitored environment.

"With the popularity of Metropolitan and indeed Monty’s Bar & Kitchen growing, there is an ever-growing need for additional parking. This additional parking area takes our total capacity up to 200 cars.

"This is also useful as one of our much needed revenue streams includes the rental of our car park to film crews as a location base which brings in vital revenue.

"Metropolitan Bushey is a non-profit business and every penny spent here at Metropolitan Bushey goes straight back into the pot to develop the site for our members and users."
