This High Street address is now home to a bank but it does not occupy the only building to have stood at the site.
The Watford Observer has again joined forces with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we recall the building that once stood at 40 High Street.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “40 High Street opposite Clarendon Road is today occupied by the TSB Bank.
“The current two-storey building replaced a taller one which at the time of this photo in the mid-1950s was being demolished.
“There was a passage between 40 and 42 which at one time led to an 'old-fashioned house' with a ‘handsome stack of chimnies’. But this was in 1898 and neither passage nor house exist anymore.”
