A Watford dog owner is “at the end of her tether” after she and her pet were attacked by the same dog twice in two months.

The 30-year-old reported both incidents to Herts Police after encounters with a man and his large “mastiff-type” black dog at Callowland Recreation Ground and Radlett Road Playing Fields.

They happened in February and on Tuesday (April 23) respectively.

“I feel really scared to walk around my local area and go to the park,” she said. “It's starting to limit where I'm able to walk with my dog and enjoy the green spaces around here.

“I think the dog community in Watford has a right to be safe and feel safe whilst walking their dogs which unfortunately I no longer do.”

Herts Police have confirmed they are investigating both incidents and urged anyone with information to come forward.

The consultant, who lives near Watford Junction with her wife, said she was walking with her mongrel in the Callowland Recreation Ground at around 10am on February 22 when a large black dog without a lead started “charging” at her.

It reportedly tried to attack her dog’s neck, but she was able to protect it by throwing herself over it.

The owner is described as a mixed-race man in his late 30s or early 40s, with dreadlocks and wearing dark clothing. He allegedly verbally abused her when she asked for his name.

She said the incident left her shaken, adding: “I didn't go out, I had to take time off from work and get some therapy as I got really sick afterwards.”

But having eventually regained some confidence, she encountered the man again in the Radlett Road Playing Fields at around 10.30am on Tuesday, April 23.

She lifted her pet up after recognising the other dog approaching, but was forced to kick it away after it tried to reach up and attack her dog, leaving her with scratches and bruises on her legs.

After collecting his pet, the man reportedly threatened her verbally and took her photo, before she left the area and phoned the police.

“I feel like it's really set me back again,” she explained. "I had a panic attack yesterday and I've had to book another therapy session.

“I feel like I'm just at the end of my tether, something needs to be done.”

Information can be reported to police online or by calling 101, quoting reference 41/15145/24 for the February incident or 41/32063/24 for the April one.
