This vehicle wasn’t moving anytime soon after its front roller broke off, but the aftermath of this accident could have been much worse if that roller had carried on rolling.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at the scene of an accident in the town centre.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “It seems that pedestrians and other road users had a lucky escape when the casting that held the front roller of this vehicle broke.
“Fortunately, it seems the front roller didn’t carry on down the road by itself as it’s in this photograph.
“The extent of the damage is clear as one of the drivers is holding up the broken part.
“The location of the accident is on the High Street, very close to the corner of Queens Road and there must have been quite a traffic jam as the road is relatively narrow here.”
