The construction of the ring road changed the appearance of many adjacent streets in Watford, including one outside a station.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at this view of Lower High Street.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “Before the current junction layout of the ring road and Lower High Street was created, the roadway used to pass immediately in front of the High Street station.
“It had done so since the station was built but the left-hand turn did not exist as there was no ring road.
“This part of the roadway still exists but is blocked off at the station.
“At the time of this photograph, the current shopping centre did not exist and a music shop named Hammonds stood where the blue triangle is today.
