The moment a Hertfordshire supermarket worker tackled an alleged shoplifter has been caught on video.
Subodh Mehta, 23, was captured on the Budgens CCTV camera in Radlett, as he stopped the man, who he said was trying to steal a pack of Coca Cola cans.
The video shows the employee trying to grab the man’s jumper as they tumble to the ground and onlookers crowd around.
Mehta restrains the man before letting him walk off and picking up the discarded items.
Although he said the Budgens branch doesn’t suffer many thefts, the fracas filmed on Thursday, March 7 was the second incident that week.
He also posted a video online from Monday, March 4, showing a man brazenly walking out of the shop with a basket of items as the shop assistant walks away from the counter.
Commenters questioned whether the Budgens worker was right to intervene over what they saw as a minor theft, but Mehta, who has worked at the shop for five months, doesn’t regret trying to stop the alleged thief.

He said: “One happened on Monday and another came on Thursday. If we don’t stop anyone, they’ll just keep coming and coming.”
Hertfordshire Police has been contacted for more information.
