This picture was taken almost 72 years ago and it shows an unusual view of a street in North Watford.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at this snap of Byron Avenue.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “It was photographed from kerb level and looks up the steep hill towards houses on Devon Road – the photo is dated April 7, 1952.
“It was obviously taken especially to show the condition of the road surface and pavements. I assume it is to record what the underlying surface was before new tarmac and pavements were laid although it’s not clear if this was to be the road’s first proper surfacing!”
