This view will be immediately recognisable to anyone who knows Watford but it was a relatively new scene when this picture was taken.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we recall this view of Beechen Grove from Sutton Car Park.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This photograph of the ring road was captured by a Watford Observer photographer in October 1976.
- The boys school site now home to a doctors' surgery
- A street with a bus garage at the end of the road
“It was taken from the Sutton Car Park looking towards the newly completed Charter Place Car Park and YMCA building.
“Access to the shopping centre from Sutton Car Park was via an underpass but many people seemed to prefer a quick dash across the road.
“Beechen Grove Church is on right and Clements sign can be seen in the centre.”
