An audio recording has been released of the moment a Watford FC fan found out he had won the lottery.
Malcom Haines won The National Lottery in January 2021 and was finally able to celebrate in the Watford HQ’s winners lounge last week.
An edited down call recording shared by new lottery operator Allwyn yesterday (February 5) shows how the 52-year-old and his wife, Rebecca, could barely believe what they were hearing.
Hear the recording below:
After confirming the facts, the lottery worker that the couple are speaking to says “I can confirm you are the lucky winner of £1 million pounds on yesterday's lottery”.
For a few moments the call understandably descends into shocked sounds and the pair repeating “oh my god”.

“What a lovely thing to wake up to on a Sunday morning,” the staff member adds, before Malcolm admitted that neither of them had been able to sleep.
Malcolm, who lives in Reading, explained: “I’m a Watford season ticket holder so every time we drive past the building on Tolpits Lane… I think ‘one day…one day’."
Because he won during the pandemic, it was only last week (February 1) that he fulfilled the last piece of his dream by celebrating in the winners' lounge of the very same Tolpits Lane HQ.
