Cyclists and a lone female pedestrian compete with vehicles to safely make their way underneath a bridge that has changed significantly in appearance since this picture was taken.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we recall this view of the Balmoral Road railway bridge.
The museum's volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: "The bridge carrying the Watford to St Albans branch railway line over Balmoral Road has been changed.
"It used to be all of brick like the tunnels along Radlett Road and Water Lane but has been replaced with a metal bridge allowing higher vehicle and two-way traffic.
"This image was taken around 1948, from the corner of Imperial Way.
"The building beyond the cyclists and cars, and part hidden by the trees, is the Church of the Nazarene."
