If you walk to the top of the High Street in Watford and look across Rickmansworth Road to where the Town Hall stands it seems almost inconceivable the view once looked like this picture.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we recall this view of how the top of the High Street once looked.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This magical view of the top of the High Street is almost unbelievable.
“It was taken by local photographer Jesse Landon, probably around 1900.
“With the pond behind him, he captured The Elms (where the Town Hall is today), the crossroad's signpost and fountain, and the view along Hempstead Road into Cassio hamlet.”
