A home with “substantial grounds” could be demolished to make way for a 98-bedroom care home.
The planning application for a site in Heathbourne Road, Bushey Heath, appeared on the Hertsmere Borough Council planning portal this morning (January 23).
If approved, it would see the Greenacres house knocked down and replaced, but the new facility would take up a much wider area including much of the nearly two-acre grounds.

The care home would have 75 care bedrooms and 12 extra care apartments across two blocks connected via an upper-level link.
The bedrooms would be individual rooms with an en-suite, while the apartments would have two bedrooms, a bathroom, toilet, storage space, and an open plan kitchen/living room.
It would also have 47 parking spaces and would be “close to a number of bus routes that offer frequent bus services”, according to the application.
The site is near to the green belt but not within it. Four trees would need to be removed for the development.
In the application, the planning consultants say they were told the existing building was “of no particular architectural, aesthetic or historic interest”, at a pre-application meeting.
The planning application (23/1637/FUL) is currently pending council consideration.
