As Watford parents await offers for primary school places, an interactive map shows which are the the hardest to get into.
Government statistics provide the number of applications and offers made for school entry in September 2023, and the proportion which received preferred offers in the town.
Within the area covered by the interactive map below (showing primary schools within the Watford parliamentary constituency area) there is a stark difference between the most and least popular first choices.
The most oversubscribed school was Nascot Wood Infant and Nursery School. The Nascot Wood Road school was put down as a first choice 107 times but had just 60 places to give out.
The nursery holds an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted grade and the junior school holds an ‘outstanding’ grade, which might suggest why it is so popular.

Parents may also struggle to get their children into fellow ‘outstanding’ schools Alban Wood Primary School.
Alban Wood had 48 first choices battling for just 29 offers, making it the next most oversubscribed.
Despite so many choices being concentrated on a few Watford schools, the majority had fewer first preference choices than total places offered.
