A series of activities will take place across 2024 to celebrate Watford's natural landscapes.
The initiative, dubbed Tales of the River, is predominantly aimed at exploring the River Colne's heritage.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund has made these events possible, having awarded more than £246,000 to Watford Borough Council and partners Groundwork East in 2022 to deliver a three-year project.
Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: "We believe everyone deserves to hear the incredible story of the River Colne.
"From history buffs to nature lovers, there's something for everyone in this epic journey.
"Join us to make memories, explore the river, and foster a shared love for the River Colne - let's embark on this adventure together."
The Tales of the River sessions offer a range of activities catering to various interests.
Local schools and community organisations are invited to book for an enchanting tour of the river’s historical significance.
An upcoming podcast series will uncover secrets and hidden treasures of the river.
For those who enjoy a leisurely stroll, delightful walks along the riverbanks, termed River Ambles, will be on offer.
There will also be eco-friendly activities by the river for families to connect with nature.
Additionally, locals can ask experts anything in regards to queries about the River Colne.
The project is intended to strengthen links to the River Colne's natural heritage and provide people with an opportunity to learn more about its impact on Watford's history.
Due to the funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery Players, all activities are free to attend.
It forms part of the council's wider 'Rediscovering the River Colne' initiative set to narrate the next chapter of the river's story.
More information on how to get involved in these activities can be found on the Rediscovering the River Colne website.
The initiative aims not only to preserve but also to celebrate the river's heritage, thus contributing to the improvement of the community's quality of life.
