Herts Police are looking for witnesses and footage after a pedestrian was hit by a car and then a HGV.

Between 3.30am and 4.30am yesterday (January 17) a 25-year-old man was struck by a grey Volkswagen T-Roc in The Avenue, Bushey. The driver left the scene leaving him to be hit again, this time by a red lorry.

The Watford man suffered serious injuries and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in an ambulance. His injuries are not life-threatening, Herts Police confirmed.

The HGV driver remained at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation while the Volkswagen driver, a 41-year-old woman from Watford, has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and causing serious injury by driving without due care.

She has been released on bail while enquiries continue. Officers are now trying to find anyone who saw what happened or has footage of it.

Sergeant Tim Davies said: “I am appealing for information and dash cam footage from anyone who may have been in The Avenue area of Bushey between the hours of 3:30am and 4.30am on Wednesday.

“If you have anything to share, please contact me as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information can email Sergeant Davies via timothy.davies@herts.police.uk. Information can also be reported online or by calling 101, quoting reference ISR 075 of 17 January.

After police arrived at the scene, they closed the road and it remained shut until 2.20pm while motorists were advised to “avoid the area”.

The East of England Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, one ambulance officer vehicle, and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance to the scene.

The crash victim was transported to hospital by a ground ambulance.
