This road in Watford has undergone significant change since this picture was taken but the differences may not be immediately apparent at first glance.
The Watford Observer has again joined forces with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week the focus is on this Watford street.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “Instantly recognising a road is sometimes difficult, especially if a view is foreshortened or if a structure no longer exists!
“In this image, the partial street sign "Car..." gives a clue as does the St James Road sign beyond, so this must be Cardiff Road.
“This view also gives the impression of a road with a handful of houses, and buildings on the old Cardiff Road industrial estate seem closer than they were in real life - I believe the really tall structure in the centre is part of the old power station.”
