A man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder after a “brutal” attack in Rickmansworth.
On December 12, the victim, a man in his 30s, was left with life-changing injuries to his neck and face, which Herts Police said were consistent with being stabbed. It happened in Meadow Way at 1.45pm.
Today (January 16), the force confirmed that a man in his 40s from Rickmansworth has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in connection with the investigation.
He has been released on bail while enquiries continue.
A police spokesperson also confirmed that Carl Nanton, 49, of Ebury Road in Rickmansworth, has been charged with witness intimidation.
He has been released on bail with conditions – including wearing an electronic tag, adhering to a curfew, and not entering Rickmansworth. He is scheduled to appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 4.
Detective Sergeant Darren Machin, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re glad to share this positive update with the public, as this was a brutal attack which occurred in broad daylight. We are continuing to support the victim and his family as the investigation progresses.
“This is a complex case with several lines of enquiry, and we ask the public not to speculate on social media as this could prejudice proceedings. We hope to provide a further update in due course.”
As part of the investigation, police re-appealed for help tracing the driver of a white Audi 4x4 that was in the area at the time, who police believe could be a key witness.
DI Machin previously said: “I’d like to stress to the public that we are treating the driver as an innocent bystander in this incident and not a suspect, so please – if you think this could be you, a friend or family member, contact us without delay as you could provide us with key information.”
Information can be reported via the police website, or by calling non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 41/99106/23.
