If the start of a new year has left you inspired to take on a new challenge in 2024 and raise money for a great cause, a Watford-based charity has unveiled its calendar of fundraising events.
Starting with a firewalk in February, Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care will also be holding a charity walk centred on London’s bridges, a skydive and is planning a once-in-a-lifetime event in Vietnam, all to raise money to support its services providing care for people with life-limiting illnesses.
The hospice’s firewalk will be taking place for the first time at Grove House, St Albans, on the evening of Thursday, February 8.
The event is organised by Scott Bell, two-time Guinness World Record holder for the longest fire walk distance.
Scott is internationally known as one of the world’s leading authorities on fire walking, meaning that those who sign up will be in expert hands.
Participants will be given tuition by the UK Firewalk Team on the evening, before taking on the feat with their bare feet.
The Firewalk is open to everybody over the age of 11 (under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult). A standard participant ticket costs £15 with a minimum £75 sponsorship commitment.

If walking a well-trodden path is more up your street, you can lace up your hiking boots for one of the charity’s walking challenges this year.
First up is the London Bridges Walk on Sunday, March 26 at which you can take in either five or ten London bridges and some of the best sights in the capital, while raising funds to support hospice care.
To enjoy the best of the local countryside, you can join the charity in celebrating 15 years of its Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge in September? Or the Herts 10K run in October.
If you’re keen to explore a new area, the new Jurassic Coast walk will be taking place on May 18 and 19.
For those with ambitions to reach the sky this year, the Rennie Grove Peace skydive may be just the event you’re looking for.
Taking place in June and July, this event is not for the faint-hearted but is one that you'll never forget.
The charity is also launching a new challenge for those who want to combine their fundraising with world travel.
Trek Vietnam is due to take place in March 2025 and will see involve participants trekking for six to seven hours a day for five consecutive days through the Asian country.

Tracey Hancock, Director of Fundraising at Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, said: “We need to raise £17,609 every single day of the year, just to keep our vital services running. We couldn’t do this without the passion and dedication of local people who support us throughout the year with fundraising events, challenges and collections.
“We’re delighted to be launching our 2024 programme today and are confident that it includes something for everybody. Whether you like to walk, run, skydive or do something completely different via a DIY challenge, every penny you raise this year will make a huge difference to the lives of local people living with a life-limiting illness.”
