A man in his eighties has been pronounced dead after a crash this morning.

The East of England Ambulance service confirmed the news this afternoon after being called to Elstree Road, in Bushey Heath, just before 9am (January 10).

Herts Police had received reports of a crash, near the entrance to Homecedars House, at around the same time before they closed the road and advised motorists to avoid the area.

An ambulance service spokesperson added: “An ambulance, an ambulance officer vehicle, and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical crews, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police confirmed that a blue Volkswagen Polo had collided with a wall in the Homecedars House car park and the force has appealed for information, witnesses, and dash cam footage.

Sergeant Timothy Davies said: "Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are working to establish what happened this morning and I am asking any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

“If you have a dash cam and were driving in the area, I would also like you to check it and get in touch if you spot anything that could help.

“Please get in touch by emailing me at timothy.davies@herts.police.uk quoting ISR 176 of 10 January.”
