A consultation has been launched over plans to build a new location for a school, in a different village.
Breakspeare School, currently in Gallows Hill Lane in Abbots Langley, is set to relocate to Croxley Green with the new site expected to offer 210 places.
The plan is council approved but remains subject to planning permission. The consultation is underway to provide information to the public on the planning application Hertfordshire County Council is currently preparing, and to inform what is formally proposed.
- School to increase places by 50% ahead of permanent move
- Breakspeare School move to Croxley Green agreed
- Tributes paid to 'thoughtful, funny and kind' police officer from Watford
The chosen location is the disused former Durrants School playing field, next to Little Green Junior School in Lincoln Drive, and would be accessed from a new entrance in Manor Way to the south.
CGIs show how the proposed school site would be arranged as one large structure in a box shape around a courtyard divided into two by a triangular central area with extra rooms.
The paved area, including car parks, will cover roughly two thirds of the vacant field, with the majority of the remaining land set to be used for sports pitches.
There are five more access options that pre-application consultation respondents can comment on. These are from Little Green Lane, Lincoln Drive, a different configuration from Manor Way, and from Killingdown Farm.
Hertfordshire County Council says the existing site in Gallows Hill Lane is not large enough to increase capacity.
In 2022, when the move was given the green light from the council, Breakspeare School offered 97 places.
Ahead of the full relocation, the existing school is set to use a satellite location at Holywell Primary School, Watford, to take the provision up to 145 places from next month.
When the decision to use a satellite location was approved, the council indicated the full move is expected to come in time for the 2025/2026 school year.
Members of the public have been invited to comment, either online or at public information events. The first public event was held yesterday (December 13), with the next set for January 10 at the Little Green Junior School site.
Comments need to be made by January 12 so that they can be considered before the planning application is submitted, as responses will be used to inform the final proposal.
