Residents have voiced frustration after their road was once again submerged beneath a river of sewage.
The sewer in Valley Road, near the bottom of The Clump in Rickmansworth, has repeatedly overflowed during the last eight weeks having never happened in decades, a local couple have claimed.
Pictures show murky water engulfing the road this afternoon (December 12) after the area was hit with a sudden downpour.
The couple told the Watford Observer they have “lost count” of how many times they have complained to Thames Water – but the problem remains unresolved.
They said that crows always feed on the leftovers when the water subsides, with dirty wet wipes left strewn over grass verges.
“Thames Water has visited several times and has on occasion said the problem is cured,” one of them said. “It hasn't been, as it overflowed early this morning and again this afternoon.
“To me it seems there is a downstream constriction - some major construction projects down the road may have resulted in the ingress of sand/silt. We’re at a loss who to complain to now.”
The pair are also concerned that other people are initially unaware that it is sewage, rather than rain water, with dog owners unwittingly allowing their pets to play in it.
A Thames Water spokesperson said: "We received reports of flooding on Valley Road in Rickmansworth following the heavy rainfall on Tuesday 12 December.
"Our engineers will be investigating the cause over the coming days and we are sorry for any disruption during this time."
