This location would have been familiar to motorists in the Watford area for many years but the site is now occupied by a very different business.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we recall a garage in Hempstead Road.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “There used to be a garage and service station in Hempstead Road where the leisure centre is today. This photo dates from the 1960s when D S Moss & Sons ran the business.
“Being on a busy road, the garage must have had much custom, and it appears from a sign on the front wall that they specialised in VW supplies.
“Later the site was redeveloped an a more modern building constructed and occupied by Rose of Watford, an Austin Motors dealership.”
