Herts Police have confirmed why the A1(M) and surrounding areas had gridlock traffic after the motorway was shut last night (December 3).
Vehicles were queuing for hours along the northbound carriageway and being diverted after officers shut the Hatfield tunnel near junction 3 shortly after 7pm.
At around 9.15pm, BCH Road Policing Unit posted on X: “The Hatfield tunnel remains closed whilst officers deal with an incident on the northbound carriageway.
