A Watford trader is set to appear in crown court over fraud after allegedly misleading a woman into paying “excessive” £14,200 fees.
Jaye Samuel Cardy appeared in Buckinghamshire Magistrates’ Court on November 15 and is next set to appear in Aylesbury Crown Court, on December 18, over charges of fraud by false representation, criminal property, and contravening unfair trading regulations.
It is alleged that the 30-year-old made representations to a woman that remedial works to her roof and chimney costing £14,200 were necessary for her home, knowing that this was or might be false or misleading, between August 22 and 27 last year.

Cardy, of Oakridge Lane, Aldenham, Watford, is also alleged to have knowingly or recklessly engaged in a commercial practice which contravened the requirements of professional diligence under unfair trading regulations, between the same dates.
According to the charge, this involved falsely representing that various works were necessary, failing to replace roof cappings to a professional standard, charging “excessively” for works to be undertaken, and failing to refund an £8,000 deposit.
Thirdly, on August 24, 2022, it is alleged that he acquired, used, or had £8,000 which was the proceeds of criminal conduct.
A trial was directed for all three charges by the magistrates’ court.
