A proposal to carry out essential works at a historic museum within travelling distance of Watford is among the planning applications submitted to Watford, Three Rivers, Dacorum and Hertsmere councils this week.

The British Natural History Museum at Tring has applied to Dacorum Borough Council for permission to carry out the "essential alterations and repairs to roof" and "essential structural repairs" to a courtyard porch.

The museum was founded in 1889 by Walter Rothschild and is famous for housing his vast collection of natural history specimens.
