Several locals were left “petrified” as fireworks were thrown or launched at them from a car on Halloween night.

Herts Police have confirmed that they were called to multiple reports of fireworks being misused in Watford and Kings Langley last night (October 31).

One woman told the Watford Observer how she had been standing at the Regent Street bus stop in St Albans Road with another woman when they were targeted by a group of boys on bikes, who started throwing pyrotechnics at them.

She described the experience as “very scary”, particularly as they were the only people around.

Herts Police have confirmed that they were called to reports of a group of teenagers setting off fireworks in the road at around 7.22pm. No injuries were reported, but officers attended and enquiries are ongoing.

Inspector Dan Jones said: “Over the course of last night, only five calls were received relating to anti-social behaviour and Halloween concerns across Watford, four of which related to this isolated fireworks incident.

“We enhanced our patrols throughout the night, and our officers spoke with a number of residents to ensure a safe and enjoyable time was had by everyone.”

In Kings Langley, residents shared reports of fireworks being launched from vehicles in multiple roads.

They were reportedly thrown from two cars driving around in the Station Road area, fired from a car window in Ovaltine Drive, and nearly hit a woman in Vicarage Lane.

This morning (November 1), a Kings Langley woman shared photos one of the fireworks that had left her “really frightened” in her garden.

She had taken her dog out to the garden at around 8.30pm when they started flying into her property.

“I was petrified,” she said. “He ran in from the fright and the way they shot over I honestly thought one was going to hit me.”

Herts Police confirmed they were called to the village at around 8.33pm when locals reported that a group of people were setting fireworks off out of a white car, described as either a Volkswagen Polo or Golf in Blackwell Road.

No damage or injuries were reported and enquiries are continuing, the force said.
