A muddy and “unsafe” Garston underpass has been cleared after safety concerns were raised to the council.

Bucknalls Lane was cleared by Hertfordshire County Council after a resident and councillor shared worries about the mud and lack of lighting.

It was fixed on Wednesday, October 25, with highway maintenance attending the area to ensure it was safe after Storm Babet.

The lights were also repaired by UK Power Network as they had not been working due to a fault.

The maintenance team will be attending the area again to further clear the debris, according to Liberal Democrat county councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst.

The path is the only pedestrian link from the Bucknalls Lane and Lemonfield area to the High Elms Lane areas and the schools surrounding it.

The resident who raised the issue was concerned about “falling due to the mud” and the water which made it “very slippery”.

He had flagged the issue to the council as well as Cllr Giles-Medhurst, who pushed for the area to be sorted.
