This picture was taken more than 60 years ago and the church ensures plenty of readers will recognise it, but much of the other detail has changed significantly.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we recall Beechen Grove car park.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “Parts of this view are very recognisable but equally, a little confusing because the roadway looks different, and the Clarendon Road houses in the background no longer exist.
“The photo was taken in 1961 just a short time before Watford's first one-way system was set up.
“In order to create this new traffic system, cars had to be able to come past the side of the church. as they do today.
“Therefore, the area that at the time of the photograph was being used as a car park, had to be turned into a road.”
