A 29-year-old man has been jailed after "routinely assaulting" his Watford-based partner, who "feared for her life".
Aimen Mawia - from London Road in London - appeared at St Albans Crown Court last Tuesday (October 10), where he was sentenced to two-and-a-half years imprisonment for coercive and controlling behaviour.
Mawia had previously pleaded guilty to the offences, which took place between July 1, 2022 and February 12, 2023.
He also admitted possession of a controlled Class B drug (cannabis) and obstruction of a police officer.
Mawia was handed a 31-month sentence for coercive and controlling behaviour, a week's imprisonment for possession of cannabis (to run concurrently) and two months for obstruction of a police officer.
He was also given a restraining order to protect the victim, which could see him return to prison if breached.
Detective Constable Conor Day said: "His victim was terrified of Mawia and feared for her life.
"She was brave enough to disclose what had happened months after the incidents occurred, so we were able to work with her to move her to a place of safety.”
