A utilities company has agreed to extend working hours so repairs can be completed in time for Watford FC’s Middlesbrough clash.
Today (September 29), “emergency” roadworks in Vicarage Road, near the junction with Merton Road, began with a road closure required for them to be carried out.
The permit was for September 29 until October 3, which quickly raised alarm bells in the area as it was set to clash with the Hornet’s home game at 3pm tomorrow (September 30).

Affinity Water has since confirmed that after liaising with Hertfordshire County Council, the working hours have been extended to allow the work to be completed more quickly.
“Our contractors have confirmed the site will be reinstated and clear by midday tomorrow,” a spokesperson added.
A Hertfordshire County Council spokesperson said: “We have spoken to Affinity Water about the need to complete works on Vicarage Road before Watford FC’s home game on Saturday.”
They confirmed they were "assured" of the same expected time for the closure to be lifted.
