Watford Jamia Mosque has had its planning application approved to extend the building and alter the first floor.
The plan, which was approved on Tuesday, September 26, includes having a second-floor extension as well as an external fire escape in the building on the end of Cambridge Road in Watford.
The application was submitted to “help meet demand at prayer times”.
The second floor extension will be “positioned on the front part of the flat roof” and use zinc cladding to ensure the elevations do not “look too bulky”.
The mosque has previously submitted a planning application in 2015 and two in 2019, which all proposed an extension.
It has been suggested on the application that the building work will not affect the current view of the area or cause any extra noise or disturbance.
It is located in a conservation area and is currently three storeys high, with a green dome and a tower which is used as a call to prayer.
The work will be done in the same style as the current building.
It is currently not known when the work will start.
