A local ULEZ junction is wrongly recording people as crossing the chargeable boundary, motorists have warned.
Judy Wragg was heading south towards the crossroads of Old Redding, Brookshill, Clamp Hill and Common Road, which sits between South Oxhey and Stanmore, when she encountered the cameras.
She claims that despite turning right onto Old Redding, which sits outside the Ultra Low Emission Zone boundary, Transport for London (TfL) sent her a warning letter.
Judy said: “I have been told if it happens again I will have to pay a £180 fine, even though I wasn’t in the zone.
“The road is on the border of Hertfordshire and London, but I am worried I will get caught out again as paying that fine is unfair.”
She branded the situation “ridiculous”, adding others will certainly be caught out too.
Another resident told the Watford Observer they have been issued a charge for the same junction, though they approached it from Old Redding before turning left onto Common Road.
“The image of my car shows it on Common Road outside the zone, but when I contacted TfL I was told there is nothing I can do, the charge stands, as I have been captured by a ULEZ camera and therefore must have entered the zone,” they said.
Judy, who lives near Borehamwood, added: “I want this to be a warning to others, it is very frustrating especially when you are getting fines without realising. It isn’t fair.
“I hate to think how many people are getting caught out at this junction.”
However, following approach from the Watford Observer, TfL has confirmed the cameras are currently in the wrong position at the junction.
A TfL spokesperson said: “We apologise for this error. Unfortunately this camera was incorrectly positioned and we are urgently rectifying this. It has been switched off and will only be active when it has been repositioned. We will be refunding any charges that were wrongly issued."
