A council that denied any involvement after workers messed up yellow lines in the dark has now admitted its contractor did the work.
Hertfordshire County Council had said it had nothing to do with the botched job in Kingswood Road, North Watford, which was compared to “melted burger cheese”.
However, the local authority has now conceded its contractor Ringway was behind it.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “Unfortunately it does appear that this work was carried out by our contractor and we can only apologise for the poor quality of the work.
“We are investigating how this happened, and our contractor will be redoing the work at their own expense.”
It is currently unclear when this remedial work will happen.
Residents had a field day on social media over the lines, branding them “McRoadworks” and querying if the person who did them was blind, drunk or a toddler.
Some were also bemused at it apparently being done in the dark between 10pm and 11pm on Friday, September 8.
Watford Borough Council, which is usually responsible for re-painting lines, had insisted it did not do the work and said it was liaising with HCC to find a solution.
