It was only last year when we had unprecedented hot weather and the fire service was inundated with calls to tackle fires.
While thankfully the weather has been calmer this summer, the Herts Fire Service is still busy supporting the residents of Watford and the surrounding areas.
Here we look at the Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue service’s impressive work over the last eight days.

Kytes Drive
Four engines were sent to Kytes Drive in Watford, to reports that a derelict building was on fire at around 3.34pm on August 26.
The crews from Garston, Watford, and St Albans fire stations found an outbuilding next to the house “well alight” and the fire spreading to the roof of the main building.
No-one was inside and the blaze was extinguished.
Blackthorne Close
In the evening of August 27, a crew from Garston fire station attended a small fire in an alleyway off Blackthorn Close, Watford.
However, on their arrival the crew found this to be a false alarm.
North Western Avenue
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 12.56am on Monday, August 28 to reports of a car on fire at the entrance to the Colne Way industrial estate on North Western Avenue, Watford.
Three fire engines, from Watford and Garston fire stations were sent to the scene, where crews found one car “well alight”. Firefighters extinguished the fire with dry powder and hose reels.
Sheepcot Lane
On August 30 at 9.01am, Garston Appliance attended a property on Sheepcot Lane in Watford.
The service was called to assist the East of England Ambulance service to remove their patient from the address safely.
Horseshoe Lane
At around 3.32pm the fire service received a call to a skip on fire in Horseshoe Lane, Watford, on August 31.
A crew from St Albans Fire attended and extinguish the fire.
